John Kaszuba
During the past 5 years Dr. Kaszuba has been conducting fundamental research of fluid-rock interactions (aqueous, carbon dioxide, and multiphase H2O-CO2 fluids) using experimental (hydrothermal), field, and computer modeling techniques. Applied research activities have addressed problems in fossil energy with emphasis on oil shale and geological carbon sequestration. Dr. Kaszuba’s laboratory has produced some of the first experimental papers regarding supercritical carbon dioxide reaction processes in brine aquifers, with implications for geologic sequestration of carbon. Current research also focuses on integrated laboratory and computational approaches for in-situ methods and geochemical signatures of oil shale development. Long-term research interests that Dr. Kaszuba continues to pursue include multiphase fluid-rock interaction and evolution in crustal systems; contact metamorphism; quartz and carbonate veins and textures; redox equilibria in crustal-scale (deep) aquifers; and mass and energy transfer in the crust.
